Only stupid women are breeding” - academipanic from New Zealand
by Lauredhel on July 8, 2007

Jim Flynn, Emeritus Professor of Political Studies at a New Zealand university, has pronounced himself the arbiter of which women should be allowed to breed. Note that fathers are completely invisible in his genetic-decay view, what could just as easily be an Onion article set in a parallel parthenogenetic society.

“New Zealalnd risks dumbing-down its future population if it does not act to boost the birth rate of its most highly educated women, says a world-ranked expert on intelligence. Otago University emeritus professor Dr Jim Flynn said easier methods of contraception, or even contraception in the water supply, could be used to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies to less educated women. “The lower down the educational scale you go, the less people are in control of their lives, and less in control of planning for children,” he said.

Flynn argues vigorously that race is not a determinant of IQ, but that class can be. “There is no genetic difference between Maori and Pakeha in terms of genes for intelligence,” he said.

Flynn, an expert on the interaction of class, race and IQ, said in a socially mobile society such as New Zealand’s, those who remained uneducated had poorer genetic material in terms of IQ. Over time poorer genes would take their toll, leading to a “decay” in genetic quality.

“I do have faith in science, and science may give us something that renders conception impossible unless you take an antidote,” he said. “You could of course have a chemical in the water supply and have to take an antidote. If you had contraception made easier by progress, then every child is a wanted child.”

1. Women get pregnant because they’re too stupid to use contraception.
2. Poor women are poor because they’re stupid.
3. Stupidity is genetic - you get it from your mother.
4. We need to act urgently to stop these stupid women from destroying the intellectual qualities of our race.
5. Stupidpoor women are out of control.
6. Men need to force contraception on all women to prevent imminent disaster- hordes of poor, stupid people taking over the world.
7. The best way to do this is to poison the entire population, and provide an opt-out only for smartrich women who can access it.
8. Smartrich women never have unplanned pregnancies. (If they do, it’s a blessing, unlike the social crime of unplanned pregnancies in stupidpoor women.)
9. Oh, it’s not about race. Jim Flynn isn’t a racist.

I’m just going to go back and check it isn’t an Onion article. Nope, it’s real.

i bet this guys mom is real proud of him

Only thing in the article that i found with a hint of truth to it... From a scientific standpoint this is half right... if two people mate with a high IQ theres a better chance that the offspring will have a high IQ aswell... Granted there are environmental factors that play into intelligence but thats a nature vs nurture argument for another time...

Other than that however this guy is a sexist pig....

Someone needs to educate him on the process of Meiosis (the creating of sex sperm and eggs) aswell as fertilization...

Poorer people in general do tend to have more kids... although its a simple philosophical difference... Not including things like infant mortality rates... people in poorer communitys tend to have big familys... because MAINLY when the parents are old they understand there kids will still probably be poor and need to make sure they can be taken care of... (theres a book i read for a sociology class called "The World Is Flat" great book it explains what im trying to say ALOT better)

Poor does not equal stupid... granted i may have skewed opinions sometimes but i was raised in a trailer park half my life and i consider myself a pretty smart individual... im only 20 and am going to have a Bachalors Degree pretty soon here... Get straight A's in tough courses... i mean i may not have the worldly experience that an older generation possesses but i keep an open mind and try to understand the theory...

Actually all people are born with brains. How people use them is up to them. Any child has great potential. As a home school mom I can tell you when you put limits on a child they will be limited. Tell them they can learn and do anything and they will aquire unlimited knowledge. I became a paralegal online and through correspondence. I taught my children what I was learning and they grasped it. They, because of my learning by myself without help through a correspondence course my children learned how teach themselves whatever they want to know. They study new things all the time. If they want to learn something they will learn it. They are 13 & 15 and are quite intelligent. I believe this is because nobody tells them they are stupid and nobody should. Everyone has potential, but their potential is limited through lifes put downs or failures. People donate for good causes all the time. Donate an encouraging word today and realize its power for the future.

I'm not discouraging anyone at all... i'm gonna be a teacher for god sake i cant be haha... i do believe everyone has potential, my point was if your gonna use genetics as an backing for your argument at least blame it on both parents and dont be a sexist pig... i believe more in the environmental aspect of child rearing making a bigger difference in overall intelligence... But there are study's that show that smarter people generally produce smarter kids... thats all i was mentioning that COULD have helped his argument...

If you wanna get into opportunities about Nature vs Nurture and aspects of opportunity and encouragement i am totally 100% with you...

Glad to hear your not discouraging. The new media and any kind of forum or outlet for speaking can have a subliminal effect on people even if they don't realize. The bible talks about being a child tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine. I believe it could be a metaphor for our real life too. We all need to pick and choose what we are going to receive into our hearts and minds as fact or fiction. There was a time when metally challenged people were locked away and it was believed that they could never learn. Now adays people know that they can learn just at a slower rate. Many people chose not to believe the mentally challenged were not stupid and began teaching them. Now they can live productive lives. As far as science is concerned its every changing and a lot of based on hypothosis. Sample: One day eggs can kill you with collesteral, the next day the collesteral in eggs can save your life. Thats the power of Science. I didn't mean to offend, just participating in your chat. Much sucess in your teaching career!

I live rural now, grew up in a small town just my mom and I. Grandparents owned a mushroom business for 50 years which they ran until retired then my cousins took it over. I moved cross-country in my late 20s seeking opportunity in technical industry. Long story short, no idea I would of meet my now husband (another techie) three years later. When the company laid me off after five years I started thinking how I was going to manage as I lost a part of myself because I was so into my career. I went back to school and finished a degree that had been sitting for 15 years, in the process started a consulting business for small business development. Here I am 10 years later still maintaining the consulting company and looking at another angle. I just got accepted today into a Doctorate program which I'm pretty excited about.

One word of advice, I would run your career like driving a vehicle. You have your direction mapped out, the road ahead of you can can crowded at times but it is always a good idea to keep one lane ahead so you don't get boxed in and be ready for any sudden stops. Something to make note of is it is okay to pull to the side at the rest stop for a break and stretch your legs. In other words, don't hesitate to get up and walk away from the computer for 10 minutes even if it is to get something to drink. All those hours you're putting in now are an investment and you are paying your dues so be sure to give those eyes a break because they need to be fresh for reading. Besides, you deserve a break as you have earned it. Remember it is okay to catch up with family, or catch up with friends. One of the things I always liked doing when I lived the dorm life many many moons ago was having every person to make something then bring to my dorm. I would usually do up a small roast. Let me tell you the hallway would somehow find their way to my apartment with their noses in the air with the comment, "what is that wonderful smell coming from your apartment, it smells like home?!" I guess I learned all my cooking from my Italian great-grandmother and my Mom. Anyway, we always had enough so there were no starving mouths to feed and the best part was no leftovers. lol!

Perhaps it's just me but I feel this woman never should have had all of those children as she was unable to support them. If not mistaken three of the six are on the welfare system. That makes me wonder what's going on with the Dr who did the IVF. In my opinion I think it is very unethical for him to consider doing that sort of procedure on a woman who is in that type of position.

Considering the fact that there are women who cannot have children any other way than INF or IVF, she flaunts this procedure as to wave under their noses which I just think is wrong. What concerns me the most are the children when they begin their real growing stages as there are medical issues which I can be very damaging to their health on a mental, physical, emotional, and behavioral status. Because of multiple births these children may be faced with issues causing things such as Autism, Bi-polar, ADD or even Epilepsy. These children could have difficulty such as heart murmurs or other heart defects.

I'm only going by what I've read but at any rate. I don't feel for the mother as she brought this on all herself. Where my concern is with those children in the neonatal unit fighting for their life. Call me a bitch, someone that doesn't have feelings, or no heart but you know I would rather the mother have a sound mind and be prepared with an income to support these children before she bring more into it.

That is my view.

Maybe the lady who had all thouse kids thought she could be like John and Kate with Eight. They could not afford those eight, but people all over the country help them. They even got free facial reconstruction surgery and hair replacement for all the stress they go through. I do think the doctor had a problem and that lady may have a problem, but you wouldn't believe how many women just go through problems when they can't born as many children as they want. On the Nanny there was a lady who couldn't control the 10 and was crying about her husband not wanting to make an even 12 since that was her dream. With all the problems they were having all she could think about was getting on with having the other two. Another lady had 18 children, they were Christians and didn't even believe in contraception. There story was they'll keep having as many as the lord wants. The children in all these cases are innocent and should be treated as such. Its not wrong for people to extend a loving hand toward these children and maybe get those lips fixed for mamma, lol. My grandma had 13 kids and none of her children did the same. This child borning thing goes way back to before bras were borned. Alot of women still feel like borning children can be their only fulfillment in life. As far as the eight, its the second time in the world only that eight babies have been born and if people want to help them than go for it. If that lady didn't receive assistance for her children people could see the actual miracle.
